Dekraai shot his ex-wife (Michelle Fournier), and 7 other people to death, at the busy hair salon where she worked in Seal Beach.
In a chilling account of the horrific mass murder scene, one survivor of the massacre told a grand jury he heard a terrified victim cry and beg for her life, and described how as Dekraai calmly shot the innocent woman to death, "I heard her take her last breath." "Dekraai shot victim after victim, executing people by shooting them in the head and chest," the district attorney said.

Jekyll & Hyde personality of domestic violence abusers The domestic violence mass murderer, Scott Dekraai, showed the typical Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 2-faced personality and good public image (hiding a deep rage), common to domestic violence perpetrators. Abusers are skilled liars and manipulators who are often very charming. They can easily fool people outside the family about their hidden violence. On the surface, Dekraai seemed like a "nice guy" -- but to his ex-wife behind closed doors, he was violent, frightening, and abusive. Dekraai showed many warning signs of an abuser who is at high risk to commit murder -- contrary to popular belief, abusers don't "just snap." There is usually a pattern of increasing violence, controlling behavior, or threats, before a batterer finally murders their ex-partner, and often, other people who either get in their way, or get caught in the cross-fire. Government and lawmakers must take action ensure the public's safety from these deadly domestic violence perpetrators. Domestic Violence Perpetrator Blows Up Condo Complex, After Abused Wife Divorced Him - 15 People Injured |
In a domestic terrorist attack, Dr. Nicholas Bartha, a domestic violence perpetator and respected New York medical doctor, blew up his condo complex in a suicidal rage, in order to punish his abused ex-wife for divorcing him. Dr. Bartha was an abuser who a State Supreme Court Judge found had “intentionally traumatized” his wife of 29 years, “a woman of Jewish origin born in Nazi-occupied Holland, with swastika-adorned articles and notes around their home."
The judge stated Dr. Bartha "ignored her need for support and assistance while she was undergoing surgery and treatment for breast cancer." Dr. Bartha was ordered to sell the condo complex as part of the divorce settlement and share the proceeds with his ex-wife, but Bartha warned in an email just 2 hours before the explosion that he "would rather die." |
The fiery explosion destroyed the four-story town house building and injured 15 people, including 10 firefighters, the doctor himself, and 4 people who were walking along the street -- chunks of flying plaster and shards of glass exploded in all directions, as the building collapsed in boiling clouds of black smoke.
The huge explosion also blew out windows of the 16-story apartment building next door. Bartha later died of his burn-related injuries. |
